BUFFALOI EXCHANGE EXERCISE

ADent Neurological Institute and Roswell Park Cancer Research Institute have signed an agreement with four Hungarian medical schools to provide 12 weeks of hands-on insight to medical students who are in their 6th year (you must apply for the programme in year 5).

The rotations four times a year start approximately the following year in July, September and December and in March of the following year. The exact dates will be set by the HMAA at the beginning of the year (shortly after the interview). A total of 16 students can participate (12 students per 4 weeks).

The aim of the programme is to encourage students and the exchange of experience and knowledge facilitation between the medical universities concerned. Through this programme, the HMAA contributes and provides a wide range of medical knowledge to young Hungarian doctors entering the Hungarian health care system.

This program is sponsored and managed by the HUNGARIAN MALE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA, HMAA (www.hmaa.org).

Students can choose the following optional rotations:
- Internal medicine
- Headache
- Surgical oncology
- Endocrinology
- Medical oncology
- Neurology
- Paediatrics-Pediatric neurology
- Neurosurgery
- Obstetrics and gynaecology
- Neuroradiology / radiology
- Gynaecology
- Surgery (GI colorectal, GI groin, melanoma, upper GI hepatobiliary, endocrine (thyroid), thoracic/lung)
- Radiotherapy, oncology
- Dermatological oncology

Funding:
Students are expected to cover:
- Return flight ticket
- Health insurance
- Medical liability/malpractice insurance (coordinated by HMAA) for about 300-400USD for 3 months
- Meal costs (some Buffalo departments provide meal vouchers for use in hospital)
- Students admitted to the programme pay a monthly housing fee of 300 USD (900 USD in total)

Financial support is available:
Pallas Athéné Foundation for Innovation and Geopolitics (PAIGEO): estimated 2050 USD grant (3 months per person based on the 2019-2020 academic year scholarship) for all Hungarian* students participating in the Buffalo Exchange (no further application required).
Campus Mundi
* for all Hungarian students participating in the Buffalo exchange program and coming from the Hungarian Language program

Who can apply?
The programme is open to students from all four Hungarian medical universities. Medical students who are studying in year 5, or those who are studying in year 6 at the beginning of September and plan to complete their sixth year in two units. Only members of the HMAA Hungary Chapter are eligible to apply for the exchange (membership is free for medical students).

Deadline:
Applications must be sent by midnight (CET) on 10 December each year. Applications sent after this date will not be accepted. Only online applications will be accepted.

Dean's letter of recommendation (in English) - scanned original
Hungarian and/or English transcript of records from year 1 onwards - scanned original
Declaration of medical student status - scanned original
CV (in English) - scanned original signed
Letter of motivation / letter of intent (in English) - scanned original signed
Passport size photo - scanned original
The application must be complete or it will be automatically rejected.

The personal interview takes place in February each year in Budapest.
Each student must submit a written EXIT INTERVIEW to the International Relations Department of Semmelweis University, the HMAA and the HMAA Hungary Chapter after the completion of the exchange programme. All students are encouraged to attend the HMAA Hungary Chapter Congress in Balatonfüred.
